Association for India’s Development (AID), Morgantown Chapter
Association for India’s Development (AID)
is a volunteer movement, based in United
States, promoting sustainable, equitable and development in India. AID supports grassroots
organizations in India and initiates efforts in various interconnected spheres such
as education, livelihoods, natural resources including land, water and energy, agriculture,
health, women’s empowerment and social justice.
Founded by Dr. Ravi Kuchimanchi, a graduate student from University of Maryland in
1991, AID is now one of the largest non-governmental organization working for development
of India at a fundamental level. AID has 36 chapters and more than 1000 registered
members in Unites States alone, 8 chapters in India and many more in UK & Australia.
Members and volunteers meet regularly to raise funds and discuss issues related to
India. Inspired by AID, volunteers and many other activists have started many independent
organizations working for the social cause across the globe.
2004 Indian film,
, is inspired by the story of Aravinda Pillalamarri and Ravi Kuchimanchi, founders
of AID, who returned to India and developed the pedal power generator to light
remote, off-the-grid village schools.
Our chapter, AID Morgantown was founded in 2005 as a small branch of a larger
tree, AID. The chapter is run and maintained by Indian students of West Virginia
University and since its inception the organization has worked relentlessly to
fight social evils and helped in uplifting rural India. We have been successfully
involved in several projects relating to education, health welfare, environmental
protection, rural sustainability, relief and rehabilitation etc. We are active
year around with volunteering works, organizing events such as dinner & cultural
nights and interacting with local communities for mutual betterment. With their
hard work and dedication WVU Indian students, as volunteers, have raised thousands
of dollars to fund our projects. All these successful projects have let the AID Morgantown
chapter to move forward in future with confidence.
